Sustainable development in healthcare and science: The NORdic DOCtoral (NorDoc) education conference 2022

Description:

Since the publication of the Brundtland report, 1987 Norway has had a central role in leading the focus group promoting and mobilising efforts for realising the United Nations 2030 sustainable development goals. NorDoc 2022 Summit is needed to engage young, next generation scientists to commit their research and innovative ideas to fulfilling the goals of the 2030 agenda. Current global challenges to healthcare and science demonstrate that bold interdisciplinary research is needed to achieve sustainable social, economic and climate stability. As the costs of research and healthcare escalate, methodological and ethical deliberation are needed to ensure that emerging technologies, including those derived from big data genomics and bioinformatics, artificial intelligence/ machine learning, as well as population registry and biobanking serve the needs of the society – embracing interdisciplinarity and eradicating inequalities. The scientific program will be focused on ethically responsible research in personalized medicine, epidemiology, clinical and social medicine. Dr Gro Harlem Brundtland will inform how The Brundtland report, 1987“our common future” sowed the seeds that formed the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and a representative from the World Health Organization will address how accomplishing sustainable practices in healthcare and research (represented in the SDG3) will enable us to curb the urgent environmental, political, and economic challenges facing our world. Keynote lectures by the Cochrane institute will critically evaluate the evidence and debate the impact of sustainable strategies in health, focusing on excellence and efficient production of valuable knowledge that addresses the societal needs and is implementable by stakeholders while reducing waste, excessive resource use or harm through overdiagnosis and overtreatment. https://www.uib.no/en/med/146139/nordoc-phd-conference-and-summer-school-bergen-2022
