In order to guarantee long-term sustainability in municipalities, they have to tackle environmental challenges in an innovative way. This project focuses on mitigation of air pollution and greenhouse gases (GHGs) by combining innovative monitoring systems with active citizen participation to find novel services to increase the use of sustainable transport. The outcomes of this project enable Norwegian municipalities to provide better services for their city dwellers while at the same time contributing to a greener future. We will set up new infrastructures for monitoring air pollutants and traffic. Based on data assimilation techniques, use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), we will deliver data of high quality. Combining data from official monitoring stations, low-cost sensors, satellite data and citizens’ perceptions allows us to provide municipalities and other stakeholders with new data sets for services such as personalized information systems or data-driven mobility planning. Urban Living Labs (ULLs) will bring together citizens, representatives of municipalities, transport company and other stakeholders that could be interested. ULLs will serve as an arena for co-designing services and information solutions to increase the use of sustainable modes of transport and thus, result in mitigating emissions from air pollution and GHGs. The project outcomes will benefit both municipalities and their inhabitants and contribute to UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and society at large.
