The AI4EU project will bring together European researchers, educators, entrepreneurs and socio-economic innovators to create an ecosystem for innovation using Artificial intelligence (AI). This ecosystem will be constructed by federating existing systems and services to create a European AI on-demand platform, and by completing this federation with new components, new services and new enabling technologies. The result will catalyse innovation through AI by harmonizing standards to enable interoperability of components, by promoting open access to data, tools and components, and by developing an easy-to use service layer to facilitate integration and deployment. The goal is to lower the barriers for deployment and enhance access to market for a variety of systems and services based on AI. This project will also catalyse European scientific research in AI by identifying challenges and organizing scientific initiatives to address such areas as explainable, verifiable, and human centred AI, where currently the technology fails to provide a viable enabling technology for innovation. The AI4EU project participants will steer the development and exploitation of AI technology by providing best-practice and legal guidelines to assure that innovations using AI respect European Ethical, Legal, Cultural and Socio-Economic (ELSE) values. The project will build awareness of the potential for socio-economic innovation among public and private actors and provide the tools to harness the potential for AI, helping to drive innovation across European society.
